Tools of the Trade

Instruments of magickal arts,
forthwith I conduct my Craft
for the power now evoked.
By your agency, guided by my hand,
the energy circles
and my work is fashioned.
Hear unto my voice
and obey my commands,
for in union we shall summon and rise.

The tools used during magickal work help guide and focus the energy being raised. While some can have direct effect, others are merely supplemental, but all are equally important. These descriptions are not definitive; all tools may be adapted to serve the intended purpose.
Bell
Ringing a bell brings harmony to an area or circle by dispelling harmful energy. It heightens focus and awareness during rituals.
Besom
Also known as a ritual broom, the besom is used to cleanse an area of unwanted energies and adverse forces. It is useful for sweeping a ceremonial area before a ritual. When hung over or laid before a door, the besom can prevent unwelcome energies from entering.
Books
Of all the magickal tools, a witch's books containing their Shadows, Grimoire, and Writings are usually the most personal. They are used not only to document the ways of the tradition but also to record what workings have been done and their outcomes.
Cauldron
The cauldron is generally used for mixing potions, oils or even foods. It can also be used to hold items that are to be burned.
Chalice
The ceremonial cup is often used for sharing and consuming water or other drinks during rituals or spell casting. If desired, it can also be used in place of a bowl for holding ritual water.
Herbs
Herbs bring the energy of Nature into the workings of magick through their innate essences. By working with herbs in various ways, their energies are released and blended into the magick.
Incense
Related to herbs, incense specifically involves the burning of herbs in order to release their energy. It is especially effective during rituals to fill the circle space with the powers of the incense used.
Pendulum
The pendulum is the simplest divination tool for seeking basic information. It involves observing the motion of the pendulum to interpret the answers given.
Pentacle
The pentacle is a flat, round piece of wood, stone or other material inscribed with magickal symbols, most commonly the pentagram. Acting as an energy focal point, the pentacle is sometimes also used as a protective talisman.
Stones
Stones hold and convey the energy of Nature, similarly to herbs. Depending on the type of stone used, the energy is aligned to a specific influence. They can be used to form a protective shield or to direct the flow of energy.
Tarot
The tarot is a versatile yet powerful tool of divination. This is due to it being subjective in its interpretation. The tarot is very adaptable and easily conforms to the needs of the reader, answering whatever question is posed.
Wand
The wand is primarily used to direct magickal energy, for instance when casting the ritual circle. Hold in the dominant, projective hand in order to conduct the most energy possible.
